Andrew Lee

Andrew Lee  is a Professor of Public Health at the University of Sheffield, with academic interests in health protection and international health, and is also a Regional Deputy Director for Health Protection with UKHSA. 

Andrew first started off medicine in paediatrics before working abroad with an aid agency in Afghanistan and disaster zones (Sri Lanka Asian Tsunami Disaster, cholera epidemic in Zimbabwe, Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines). 

He subsequently specialised in general practice and public health, and has served various senior roles: he was formerly Director of Primary Care and Population Health for NHS Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group and a Non-Executive Director with Gateway Primary Care which provided accessible and inclusive healthcare for Rotherham’s hard to reach and vulnerable groups.

Dr. Safiya Virji

Dr Safiya Virji is a GP, an NHS Appraiser for GPs, and a Training Programme Director for NHS England leading the educational provision for GPs in training. She is also an Associate Dean of General Practice leading on health equity training, and a senior clinical lecturer for primary care for undergraduate medical students at Queen Marys University of London. Safiya has particular interests in strategic leadership and inclusion.

Jamie Hayes

Jamie is a pharmacist and director in NHS Wales and an Honorary Professor at Cardiff Metropolitan University, School of Sport and Health Sciences. 

A clinical pharmacist by background, Jamie has a thirty-year career in healthcare leadership, medical education and behavioural change. He served as an elected board member for the Royal Pharmaceutical Society for six years, from 2016 to 2022, and was awarded Fellowship in 2021. 


In 2017, Jamie founded JMH Collaborations Ltd, a coaching, leadership and performance consultancy and has coached individuals and teams from start-ups to blue chips. Jamie is one of the executive coaches at Cardiff Business School, coaching and supporting their learners. 


He is also co-host of The Aural Apothecary Podcast, A podcast about medicines, people and stories which is downloaded in over 60 countries across the world and frequently features in the Apple Top Ten for Medical Podcasts.

Juliette Alban-Metcalfe

Juliette Alban-Metcalfe is a Chartered Occupational Psychologist and CEO of Real World Group, and is an internationally respected expert in the field of leadership and teamworking behavioural assessment. 

She has been working with Real World Group for the past 15 years, supporting leadership development with both individuals and groups up to Board level globally. 

She has a particular passion for a focus on positive psychology and diversity & inclusion in leadership.

Mat Daniel

Mat Daniel, MMEd MA(Coaching) PhD FRCSEd(ORL-HNS) has over 30 years’ experience in healthcare, and works as a Consultant Paediatric Otorhinolaryngologist. 

He has / had leadership roles at local, regional and national level, including in medical associations, research, medical education, and guideline development. 

Mat uses coaching as a leadership style, he trains others in coaching and leadership, and runs a variety of workshops designed to support doctors' career development.

Meherunissa Hamid

Meherunissa Hamid is a public health professional currently pursuing a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She is currently living in the UK, and is originally from Pakistan where she worked on research and health delivery projects, including healthcare programmes funded by international donors, in both hospital and NGO environments. Her Doctoral thesis focuses on using evidence-based research to bridge the gap between policy and real-world implementation of health and social care interventions. She has a particular interest in understanding the experiences of those directly impacted by policies and interventions—to address gaps in policy development and intervention strategies.

Professor Andrew Furber

Andrew has been the Regional Director of Public Health (North West) for Office for Health Improvement and Disparities at the UK Department for Health and Social care (a function which was previously part of Public Health England) and NHSEngland since May 2020 and is also Honorary Professor of Public Health Practice at the University of Manchester. His many previous roles include Centre Director for Public Health England in Yorkshire and Humber as a Director of Public health for over a decade, and is a past president of the UK association of directors of public health. Andrew originally trained as a General Practitioner and worked for seven years in Nepal at all levels of the health system and has taken short term assignments in several other countries. His current portfolio includes PH workforce development nationally. Andrew was awarded an OBE for services to public health in the Jubilee Birthday Honours List in 2022.

Professor James Dunbar

Professor James Dunbar spent 25 years as a GP in Dundee, also part time in Forensic Medicine and as an Academic. After two years as a Medical Director, he arrived in Australia in 2001 to set up the ‘Greater Green Triangle University Department of Rural Health, Flinders and Deakin Universities’, which allowed him to work on both population health and quality improvement.
